Experience

Immersion and creative retreat

Our house is situated in a space with its own spirit, enveloped in peace. A magical place where the artist can find themselves, within themselves and with themselves; where music and its followers converge, given the opportunity to create and experience art in its essence. Here, creators are surrounded by sensory stimuli that go beyond music: the mountains, the air, nature and the surroundings; energies unite to guarantee a unique and unforgettable experience.

A brand

Sonastério: the monastery of sound.

The brand’s conception

The arched logo evokes both monastery portals and the shape of a tuning fork. Made of light and shadow, it evokes candles and monastic life: art as asceticism, overcoming the present state and entering the world of the spirit. The visual identity emulates the color patterns of illuminated manuscripts, and all elements point towards the central idea of the project: music illuminates.

The House

Sonastério is a project that values the surrounding landscape, integrating with the magnificent nature of the surroundings through a delicate implantation that respects the site and takes advantage of the privileged view of the mountains near Belo Horizonte. The built spaces provide a welcoming atmosphere in the living and working areas, where the interiors and terraces enjoy panoramic views of this beautiful geography.

This project arises from the integration between the João Diniz Arquitetura office, which has a broad portfolio of built, published and award-winning works; and WSDG, one of the most important international acoustics companies in the world, with studio and sound system designs in several cities in Brazil and abroad.

Unique architecture

The specific landscape in the project area emerges as the main constraint on the architectural solution, suggesting a panoramic exploration of the inspiring mountain views. The concrete structure appears as a monoblock, suitable for the acoustic demands of the main performance and recording room and the entire built complex, proposing a floating and almost mineral integration with the surroundings.

João Diniz – Responsible architect

The studio

High-level acoustics begin with geometry, and in this project we worked closely with the architect to ensure that every square meter was precisely calibrated. Comfort is another key feature for extraordinary production and recording experiences. The 70m2 Live Room stands out for its 4-meter high ceiling and professional infrastructure for audiovisual work, as well as, of course, the glass wall with panoramic mountain views. There are also four more recording rooms, all interconnected by an impeccable system installed under the studio floor.

Acoustic Design

Having participated in the design and planning of an exceptional building, the measurement of the sound system and speakers, and also high-level music productions allows me to proudly say that the consensus among engineers, producers, and musicians is that the Sonastério sounds as good to the ears as it is beautiful to the eyes. It was an exemplary project: a renowned client, a great architect, and perfect geometry.
